Series and Process

I started to get much more serious about making art in 2007. I had been painting acrylic and doing some collage until then. Around 2007 discovered my love for watercolor and liquid acrylic inks. I also realized that I loved playing with various ways to apply the paint. I also discovered the myriad of surfaces. So this sparked my "Watercolor Experiments" series. Those works were truly experiments with colors, mediums, surface and application. I also discovered through these experiments the importance of finishing the work with UVS varnishes. Not only to extend the life of the work, but to give the work a finished look, and increase the chroma on the already intense color.

This ran its course through 2009. I had the chance to show these works in several locations in Columbus. In the latter part of 2009 I began to work more with various acrylic mediums on stretched canvas. Working on canvas has been more of a challenge to me with the mediums and application I have used in the past. I have also gotten more into the texture of the work, as well as the surface finish. I try to find mediums to use under the paint layers that will cause an intensely glossy, almost wet-looking, surface after the varnish is applied. My goal is to make the work look like textured glass. The texture comes from building on the surface before applying very thin layers of paint. Occasionally I will use grainier, more organic textures, such as iron oxide, micas and glass bead medium.

I know many traditional artists say it, but the work looks better in person.
Thanks for checking it out!

Sublime Rush
I am very happy to tell you that I recently assumed ownership of Sublime Rush from the amazing RockstarVanity. I know I have some awesome shoes to fill there, but I am really looking forward to keeping the momentum of the magazine going. I have quite a few interviews lined up with some amazing artists around the world. There will be an In Review & Preview Issue at the end of August and then Issue 008 will be out at the end of October.

Send me a note here if you are interested in being in Sublime Rush or contributing, or email

And if you are not familiar, you can check out the magazine here: (

I have been trying to keep up with stuff over at 4bstr4ct4rt more lately. I think a few people thought the group was dead, but alas it is not. Thanks to Senecal, limegintonic, lien, and limnides for helping me keep up with the entries that come into the gallery. I know this is not the easiest group to get your work into. It is heavily juried. We do look for a certain element to the abstract work that goes into the gallery. We look for excellent compositions with an organic quality. If you look through the gallery and see what has made it in, that will help you gauge if your work is a good fit. If you do not make it, do not give up...try again. Some of our jurors will take the time to go to your gallery and tell you what is a better choice.

We recently announced a call for entries for 4bst4ct4rt's Box Folio Set One and Two… you are interested in entering into this juried call, we would love to hear from you.

Art Life
On the home front I have been kicking ass with sales this month...I decided to take 4 paintings to a party and sold all of them, plus two more. Now that is what I call a great month!
I am planning an Open Studio event for the end of August, so hopefully I can keep up that momentum!!
I have also been busy serving as Secretary on the board of German Village Art League here in Columbus, Ohio.
That has been an interesting experience so far. Getting ready for many events for the rest of the year, including Gallery Informal, which is where we partner with a local gallery to help give our members advice on how to approach a gallery with their work. is a wonder I have time to sleep.

Amazing landscapes, feast of light and colour, pictures even droning a bit, like the fire in iron stove. Warming and mind-expanding. Thank you!
