Sublime Rush
I am very happy to tell you that I recently assumed ownership of Sublime Rush from the amazing TanyaSimoneSimpson. I know I have some awesome shoes to fill there, but I am really looking forward to keeping the momentum of the magazine going. I have quite a few interviews lined up with some amazing artists around the world. There will be an In Review & Preview Issue at the end of August and then Issue 008 will be out at the end of October.

Send me a note here if you are interested in being in Sublime Rush or contributing, or email mail@sublimerush.com.

And if you are not familiar, you can check out the magazine here: www.sublimerush.com (www.sublimerush.com/)

4bstr4ct4rt
I have been trying to keep up with stuff over at 4bstr4ct4rt more lately. I think a few people thought the group was dead, but alas it is not. Thanks to Senecal, limegintonic, lien, and limnides for helping me keep up with the entries that come into the gallery. I know this is not the easiest group to get your work into. It is heavily juried. We do look for a certain element to the abstract work that goes into the gallery. We look for excellent compositions with an organic quality. If you look through the gallery and see what has made it in, that will help you gauge if your work is a good fit. If you do not make it, do not give up...try again. Some of our jurors will take the time to go to your gallery and tell you what is a better choice.

We recently announced a call for entries for 4bst4ct4rt's Box Folio Set One and Two
4bstr4ct4rt.deviantart.com/blo… you are interested in entering into this juried call, we would love to hear from you.

Art Life
On the home front I have been kicking ass with sales this month...I decided to take 4 paintings to a party and sold all of them, plus two more. Now that is what I call a great month!
I am planning an Open Studio event for the end of August, so hopefully I can keep up that momentum!!
I have also been busy serving as Secretary on the board of German Village Art League here in Columbus, Ohio. www.gvartleague.com/index.php
That has been an interesting experience so far. Getting ready for many events for the rest of the year, including Gallery Informal, which is where we partner with a local gallery to help give our members advice on how to approach a gallery with their work.

Wow...it is a wonder I have time to sleep.

Things That Changed Other... by peggymintun
The Sketchbook Project 2011 Tour was created by the Arthouse Co-op in Brooklyn, NY. It is the fifth tour with many themes for the artists to choose from. Iaian Greenson (DoctorBalls), from Toronto, Canada, chose the theme "Things That Changed Other Things". His sketchbook explores this theme with 73 pages of beautiful artwork. As Iaian's sketchbook tours the US he will be notified each time a person looks at his work of art. Each journal on the tour will have a barcode and will be checked out by the viewer like a library book. Eventually his sketchbook will make it back to the Brooklyn Art Library to be part of their permanent collection.

Check out the sketchbook on the tour if you can. Otherwise you can see Iaian's sketchbook here: www.flickr.com/photos/58747210…

Interesting Color Pallets

Journal Entry: Mon Sep 6, 2010, 4:41 PM

Sitting here a little bummed that my long weekend is almost over and I will have to go back to the grind tomorrow. I am ridiculously behind on some projects, but I need to get everything done before my little trip to Canada next week. I best get busy!

As I was faving a ton of stuff from my watch folder today, I thought that "interesting colour pallets" would make a nice feature...

Whoa...!!! :-) + Violet Features

Journal Entry: Fri Aug 6, 2010, 4:58 PM

Checked my messages this morning to be greeted by someone congratulating me on the senior status. I have to admit, I was happily surprised. And it is an honor to have it happen on Deviant's birthday.

Thanks to everyone who stopped to say congrats. And thanks to everyone who watches me and my art.

Special thanks to Senecal. I have mentioned it before, but he has been a huge influence on me over the past few years. One thing he has always stressed to me is having a sense of community. I have tried other online art communities out there, and I have to say, dA has been one of the best. All of the art and the people have really been an inspiration.

Okay, enough of all that. ;-) Some violet features for you all!

Recently I had someone send me a note on Etsy expressing interest in purchasing one of my artworks, "Jupiter Surfaces". At first I was excited to make a sale, but then I began to analyze the note. I thought, I wonder who this is that they need to be so private about the sale…um, answer is that it is a scam to get my money.

I thought I would share this, with a little break down of it, for all of you who sell your art or crafts online.

"RE: Jupiter Surfaces, Item # xxxx:
I am interested in the immediate purchase of your item and will be make payment via cashier check/money order, my private shipping company will handle the shipping, but before payment will be made i need to be sure of who i am dealing with if you are going to be honest and sincere throughout the transaction. A certified cashiers check is cash-able the same day, there is going to be an excess fund on the check ,the excess fund is meant for the private shipping company who will come to your place for pick up of the item, so shipping is not a problem, will you be able to transfer the excess fund to the shipping company the same day you receive the check?. check would be sent to you so when you get payment you can easily cash it at any cashing point near you or deposit in your bank. You'll be sending excess fund to my shipper , which would be meant for shipping arrangement.if you agree, signify your interest by forwarding to me your Final Asking Price, Full Name & Contact Address and Tel # also i will want you to email to my husband private email address [[[email address removed by me]]] make sure you reply back to my husband email,So plz kindly email me to my email address I await your response soonest.
Best and kind regards,"

1. "I am interested in the immediate purchase of your item…"
Saying the "immediate purchase" adds a sense of urgency to the transaction. This may throw you off your guard.

2. "…will be make payment via cashier check/money order…"
Well, if it is a cashiers check or money order, then it must be good, right? The fact is, a person can counterfeit a cashiers check or money order if they have the tools to do so.

3. "…my private shipping company will handle the shipping…"
They, in effect, took the control of the shipping away from me. I had a fair shipping price, but they need to take that control. This is an important part of the scam.

4. "…but before payment will be made i need to be sure of who i am dealing with if you are going to be honest and sincere throughout the transaction…"
They are asking me if they can trust me?? And they will not even give me their name to do business with them. hmmmm...

5. "A certified cashiers check is cash-able the same day, there is going to be an excess fund on the check ,the excess fund is meant for the private shipping company…"
Okay, so they are telling me to cash it right away…that's fine. And, instead of paying their "private shipping company" themselves, they want to send me the money to send to their "private shipping company". Why can't they pay them directly?

6. "…so shipping is not a problem, will you be able to transfer the excess fund to the shipping company the same day you receive the check?"
Of course they want me to send the money the same day. After all, they gave me that cashiers check/money order. Why not? Because their check was fraudulent, but it will take a day or two for it to go through the system.

7. "…check would be sent to you so when you get payment you can easily cash it at any cashing point near you or deposit in your bank…"
Um. thanks for the help…it's sooooo easy to get my money.

8. "You'll be sending excess fund to my shipper…"
And here is the heart of the scam. Before I know the check is bad, I have already sent them funds that are good. And who knows how much over my asking price they will add on for their "private shipping company", who will come right to my door to pick up the painting. That sounds like it could be pricey. I bet it is.

9. "…signify your interest by forwarding to me your Final Asking Price, Full Name & Contact Address and Tel #…"
So, they want all the information they can get from me. And, remember, they will not even tell me their name… WTF?

10. "So plz kindly email me to my email address I await your response soonest.Best and kind regards," -
They could not even be bothered to sign a name.

Other signs:
1. They created an Etsy account to send me the note, which they promptly deleted.
2. Other than the subject line, there is nothing at all individualized about this note. They could copy and paste it and send it to the masses.
3. The email they gave me for further communication is very generic…no names there either.

I have seen this scam before, but I have never seen it associated with artwork. I was annoyed at first that they needed to go completely outside of Etsy and not give me their name. (Etsy is just a means for them to find victims in one place.)
Then it finally clicked that I'd seen it before as a bank fraud.
It is more obviously that way because it is a random person contacting another saying hey, I will write you this check, if you will wire this money, etc.
They just want money and information. And evidently the have focused on people selling items like art that may consider it, or not be aware of it. I would venture to say they are not interested in the artwork what-so-ever.

So, be on the lookout…not only on Etsy, but anywhere you sell your goods online!

Old School With The Journal

Journal Entry: Tue May 11, 2010, 6:11 PM

After years of CSS on the journal, it started flipping out (at least with FF) and I just gave up. So, back to basics. And you know what? I am better than good with that. The novelty has worn off for me anyway.

So, I told you all that you need to visit the blog to see what's up, but whatever. I'll just blabber on right here for a while.

Just finished my biggest work yet...4' x 5'. It is a monster. I am starting to enjoy working bigger. It will be in an abstract show here in Columbus at the end of the month with a group called AbX. Worth checking out if you are in this area. I will post the show card soon.

I will also be showing work with EnergyArtClub in the Energizing Radiance at Gallery Fifty Six in Memphis, TN. This show is July 9th until August 3rd. More info here: www.energyartmovement.org/proj…

So happy to be showing with each of these groups, along side so many awesome artists!

Also have another solo show back at the gallery I had my first solo gig. This time it is in July and August. I'm calling this one Textures of the Soul. The opening reception will actually be in August.

Also, I updated my website recently...again. I like it now. For now!

Big things are on the horizon for the 4bstr4ct4rt group. Go check it out if you have not lately. All the entries submitted to the gallery are juried in by the contributors, mods, and co-founders. I encourage you to submit work, but please check the gallery to see if your work is a good fit for the group.

And finally...features!

Bah, It Is Not Important

But since you are here...
:icondreamydeb: asked me to do one of those awesome 10 Things About Me:

1-
I am currently reading Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas, since it is one of my dearest friend's fav book and means the world to him. I am having a hard time staying sober (if you know the book, you understand), so it is slowing down the pace...

2 -
I am taking down my October/November show from J. Gumbos tomorrow night. I then have another show at Core Fitness in Olde Town east here in C-Bus. The owner of Core Fitness does a health and nutrition segment for a local news channel here, and has also been on MTVs Made. My work will be hanging in his club through the end of the year.

3-
I can't draw a monster for shit. Lame lame lame...oh well. I was thinking about doing a children's book with lame monsters, but I was told that has "been done"...a lot

4-
The story of Theresa Duncan and Jeremy Blake still fascinates me. I have not forgotten them.

5-
I recently rediscovered my love of Duran Duran. I know...it's awesome.

6-
The last movie I saw in the theater was District 9, and I loved it. Actually, it was Zombieville. So, District 9...it was really great.

7-
If you asked me to choose between [REC] and Quarantine, [REC], hands down.

8-
2010 is already shaping up to be something of awesomeness. And I am excited about it.

9-
You can find me on Facebook, if you search for Peggy Mintun...if we are not already friends there, add me if you want.

10-
I love guacamole.

Interview...

Journal Entry: Sat Sep 12, 2009, 5:08 AM

Interview by

:icongraphix86: asked me the following questions...
1- When did you find out about DA?
I found out about dA from a friend of mine (Senecal) back in 2006. I signed up then, but really did not become active until later on. Once I got started, I could not stop, ya know. I love this site. Work has kept me from being as active as I once was, but I try to keep up.

2 - What has inspired you to do your artwork?
Life. Emotions. My environment. Fascination with chaos. The universe. It is hard to explain, I guess. I just get sad if I am not creating something, and what I like to create the most is paintings. I mostly do abstract, as you know, but I have a lot of ideas for figurative work bouncing around in my brain all the time.

3- Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Hmmm...not sure if I will be living where I am, although I have some pretty deep roots here. In case you did not mean that literally, I hope to be painting for a living. It is a long shot, I know. But I can always hope. Otherwise, it would be great to be running my own design house with some friends, or being part of that. Being an art director somewhere would be nice, too.

4 - What are your hopes for the future?
To continue to create art and happiness. Pretty simple.

5- Do you believe the rumors about 2012?
Not really. But I do believe parts of the media are taking full advantage of it. Or, I dunno, maybe a huge asteroid is headed for us.

Now, if you would like me to interview you, just respond to this journal. Then you would answer the questions in your journal and pass it on, etc.

Thinking..............

Journal Entry: Sun Jul 19, 2009, 7:05 PM

Inspiration

First off, I am glad that so many of you think that there will be a polar shift and the world will be full of peace-lovin' hippies come 12/21/2012. Also, none of you are "ascared", which is awesome. Don't know what I am talking about? Here is the poll: peggymintun.deviantart.com/jou…

Why do you do what you do??

Life is interesting. I am having one of those weekends where I am thinking of the recent past and have a feeling that there is going to be some changes coming up for me: some within my control and some not; some involving me and some involving people close to me.
I have to tell you, I am a bit apprehensive about it all.

But, part of that is thinking about my art and where I need to take it, which brings up the why. Why do you do what you do?

I have been painting for many, many years. My style has gone through a lot of changes...plus I have learned a great deal. Especially during my time here on dA. All in all, painting makes me happy. It helps me get away from life and is a way to express myself.

Current Exhibitions

Well, I thought I may take a few months off of from exhibiting, but a new opportunity came up. Yay! I do want to start arranging shows for later on in the year...closer to the holidays. We'll see what happens with that, too.

McGraw Hill - solo
I was asked to exhibit my work at McGraw Hill here in Columbus. The exhibit will be up for two months - July/August. I don't believe it is open to the public...although, I do not have all of the details yet. It is just nice to keep the work out there and being seen, if even for a select audience. I want to get a couple of larger pieces ready for this show. Yeah, I have plenty of work, but I like to have new stuff to hang. Hopefully I will be permitted to take photos of the installation!

Still calling all poets...

Deadline Extended: July 15th
I mentioned in a couple journals ago that I am planning on publishing a book of my watercolor works very soon. I would like to add some poetry to the book, so I am asking people (poets and wanna-be poets) to choose a work from my WCE or H20 Gallery and write a poem about it. If I like it, I will add it along side the artwork and give you full credit for the writing. This is just something that I am putting together for fun and as a sort of gallery book. I am sure that some poetry along the way will be a wonderful addition to my work.

So far, I have a couple of poems by nosedive and Rooballeux.

Bucket o Stuff

Journal Entry: Tue Jun 30, 2009, 6:00 PM

Omnibucket Stuff

I have been helping out the guys over at Omnibucket for a bit of time now. Most recently we had a chance to interview Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson. In the past we have done email interviews, but this time we managed to make a podcast via sKype. So if you want to give it a listen, click here.

Dr. Tyson's latest book is The Pluto Files, The Rise and Fall of America's Favorite Planet. He played a big part in changing how we have defined our solar system, for better or for worse. It was quite an honor to speak with Dr. Tyson about this and other things. Senecal did most of the talking. I just arranged and produced. You can also hear my "sweet" voice in the intro and outro...I say this as I chuckle.

This will also eventually play on Shouting Fire Radio. We are planning on making these audio interviews a regular event on Shouting Fire. I'll be lining up some notable people here soon. More to follow on that...

Chaos

Journal Entry: Sat Jun 13, 2009, 7:35 AM

Chaos

This is something that has been I my mind a lot lately. Do you relate your artwork to chaos? If you do, tell me how you do, or what makes you think of it that way.

I think my work has a lot to do with chaos. I just let things happen on the canvas. So, I guess it is the most literal interpretation of the word, being seemingly unordered and disorganized...but then from that chaotic beginning, I try to shape something from it. Perhaps this is why most of my work has such an underwater or universe-like feel to it. As far as being a part of chaos theory, maybe...I am still pretty green in my study of all these theories and trying to make those relationships.

No Right, No Wrong - co-chair
This is a group abstract show in Worthington. There are tons of wonderful works in this show. I entered both Overcast Days and YWBSWTF. I won second place for Overcast Days, which was a nice surprise. I did not think I would be eligible, since I helped plan the show, but the gallery owner said that it was fine...so, cool! I have a ton of great photos from this event...I plan on posting them to my blog soon. I will add a link to it.

Haiku - solo
I did manage to take some photos of this show. I love how my stuff looks in the place. It has a lot of vibrant energy on the walls and in that setting. I added some phones about a week ago...some are blurry, I know. I did not use my flash.

Still calling all poets...

Deadline: June 30th
I mentioned in a couple journals ago that I am planning on publishing a book of my watercolor works very soon. I would like to add some poetry to the book, so I am asking people (poets and wanna-be poets) to choose a work from my WCE or H20 Gallery and write a poem about it. If I like it, I will add it along side the artwork and give you full credit for the writing. This is just something that I am putting together for fun and as a sort of gallery book. I am sure that some poetry along the way will be a wonderful addition to my work.

So far, I have a couple of poems by nosedive and Rooballeux.
